In an effort to aid more children, families and seniors struggling with food insecurity, the Food Bank of Iowa is increasing deliveries and their Mobile Pantry Program throughout their 55 county service area. Beginning this month, trucks of food will be delivered to Fort Dodge and Storm Lake in addition to deliveries in Clear Lake, Creston and Iowa Falls. The new mobile pantries will be held in Eldora, Exira, Odebolt, Perry, Swea City and State Center. Existing mobile pantry deliveries in Stanhope and Bedford will also continue. For one day during this giving season, all cash collected on DART buses will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa. Fares for Food Day will be held Thursday, December 12. DART riders can make donations of their standard boarding fares ($1.75 for local, $2 for Express, and $3.50 for Flex and On Call). Pallets of pasta will be delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. This donation will provide approximately 1,176,000 servings of pasta to children, families and seniors who are struggling with hunger throughout the state. The Food Bank of Iowa announced a $25,000 grant from Morgan Stanley to fund its BackPack Program™, a child hunger initiative that helps to make sure kids are fed when they aren't in school.
