Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic Raises $345,000 for area food banks

Low scores might be best in golf, but a high number was a big win at the Alliant Energy Foundation’s eighth annual Drive Out Hunger Golf Classic. Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin announced today that this year’s Drive Out Hunger raised $345,000 for nine Feeding America member food banks in Wisconsin, Iowa, Minnesota and Illinois. Yankee Doodle Drive Against Hunger

Food Bank of Iowa increases deliveries and Mobile Pantry Program to aid hungry Iowans
February 19, 2014

In an effort to aid more children, families and seniors struggling with food insecurity, the Food Bank of Iowa is increasing deliveries and their Mobile Pantry Program throughout their 55 county service area. Beginning this month, trucks of food will be delivered to Fort Dodge and Storm Lake in addition to deliveries in Clear Lake, Creston and Iowa Falls. The new mobile pantries will be held in Eldora, Exira, Odebolt, Perry, Swea City and State Center. Existing mobile pantry deliveries in Stanhope and Bedford will also continue. Sunbelt Bakery ends Thanksgiving Give-Back Promotion by Donating 5,000 Granola Bars to fight hunger

Fares for Food Day to benefit the Food Bank of Iowa

For one day during this giving season, all cash collected on DART buses will be donated to the Food Bank of Iowa. Fares for Food Day will be held Thursday, December 12. DART riders can make donations of their standard boarding fares ($1.75 for local, $2 for Express, and $3.50 for Flex and On Call). Additionally, people who typically pay with passes or employer IDs can make cash donations of any amount that day. To learn more,

Central Iowans donate over 234,000 lbs. of food to help hungry Iowans

Central Iowans donated more than 234,000 lbs. of food and essential resources through STAR 102.5's Combat Hunger. STAR 102.5 joined sponsors and more than 200 businesses and schools to make this the second largest amount collected through the annual food drive. To learn more, click here.

STAR 102.5’s 23rd annual Combat Hunger food drive kicks off tomorrow at 12th & Locust Street in downtown Des Moines benefiting the Food Bank of Iowa. Combat Hunger is Iowa’s largest community-wide food and fund drive providing hungry Iowans in need with food during the harsh winter months and increasing awareness of Iowa's critical hunger problem. Fareway Stores donating 147,000 pounds of pasta to help hungry Iowans

Fareway Stores, Inc. is helping to feed hungry Iowans with a donation of 147,000 pounds of pasta to the Iowa Food Bank Association. Pallets of pasta will be delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa on Wednesday, Nov. 20 at 9 a.m. 
This donation will provide approximately 1,176,000 servings of pasta to children, families and seniors who are struggling with hunger throughout the state. For children, 1 in 5 does not have enough to eat. To learn more, click here.


Hy-Vee Stores to donate 1,000 turkeys to help Iowans in need this holiday season

Food Bank of Iowa receives $25,000 Morgan Stanley grant to expand
BackPack Program™

The Food Bank of Iowa announced a $25,000 grant from Morgan Stanley to fund its BackPack Program™, a child hunger initiative that helps to make sure kids are fed when they aren't in school. 
The Food Bank of Iowa’s BackPack Program™ is designed to lessen the consequence of chronic childhood hunger by providing a sack of kid-friendly foods to low-income elementary school children on weekends when they do not have access to the federal free and reduced-price meal program.

Hy-Vee and Tyson Foods Team Up to Fight Hunger

The Walmart Foundation awards $260,000 to local nonprofits

On behalf of The Walmart Foundation and its Iowa State Giving Program, Walmart will award $260,000 to Iowa nonprofits including Central Iowa Shelter & Services, Food Bank of Iowa, The Heritage Agency, Northeast Iowa Food Bank and Iowa Workforce Development Foundation. 
Food Bank of Iowa will be awarded a $75,000 Iowa State Giving grant and an additional Walmart Associate Choice award of $50,000 to fund its Red to Green program aimed at distributing more pounds of food per persons in poverty to help relieve the hungry in Iowa. To learn more, click here.

Food Bank of Iowa's BackPack Program™ to expand distribution to 22 schools in northwest Iowa
August 26, 2013

As children get settled into a new school year, the Food Bank of Iowa is gearing up to tackle childhood hunger in north Iowa through the BackPack Program™.  In a partnership with the United Way of North Central Iowa, the BackPack Program™ will provide a sack of child friendly, easy-to-prepare, nonperishable food items for the weekend when children do not have access to the free and reduced price meal programs.  

Beginning tomorrow, August 27, the food bank will be making scheduled trips to United Way of North Central Iowa’s office in Mason City where volunteers will come together to assemble and pack sacks for over 600 kids each week distributed in 22 north Iowa schools. To learn more, click here.


Food Bank of Iowa Receives $2,000 Grant for its Mobile Pantry and Fresh 
Produce Program

The Food Bank of Iowa received a $2,000 Working Here Fund grant to support their growing Mobile Pantry and Fresh Produce Programs. The grant is provided through Farm Credit Services of America’s (FCSAmerica) Working Here Fund.
 The grant supports the Food Bank of Iowa’s “food in – food out” projects which secure and distribute large donations of perishable and nonperishable food items to their partner agencies who directly serve clients in need. The effort includes mobile pantries and a fresh produce program which complement work done through their partner agencies. To learn more,

Fareway Stores and Sparboe Farms donating 237,600 eggs to help hungry Iowans through donation to the Iowa Food Bank Association

In late 2012, Fareway Stores and Sparboe Farms joined forces to help feed hungry Iowans with a donation of 19,800 dozen eggs to the Iowa Food Bank Association – that’s 237,600 eggs! Pallets of fresh eggs will be delivered to the Food Bank of Iowa in Des Moines on Friday, July 12 at 8 a.m. 
This donation is a result of the campaign, Fill the Truck, where Sparboe Farms graciously donated one egg for every one dozen that was sold in Fareway stores across the state. To learn more, click here.

The Arby's Foundation "Hungry for Happiness" mobile tour stops in Des Moines to help fight child hunger

On June 22 and June 24, the Hungry for Happiness mobile tour will visit Des Moines to help raise awareness about the issue of childhood hunger and increase participation in free summer meals sites for kids located in the area. Summer continues to be a vulnerable time for those who rely on school breakfast and lunch during the school year. Food Bank of Iowa receives $60,000 grant from the Nationwide
Insurance Foundation

Today, the Food Bank of Iowa announced that they have received a grant of $60,000 from the Nationwide Insurance Foundation. The Food Bank of Iowa is receiving the funds as a part of a 
$1.25 million donation being made to the national office of Feeding America, the nation’s largest domestic hunger-relief organization and 19 of its member food banks in communities where Nationwide associates live and work. To learn more, click here.

Iowa DNR's Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH) program recognizes 10 years of service to help feed hungry Iowans

The 2012-13 hunting season marked the 10 year anniversary of a one-of-a-kind program to the state of Iowa that helps feed hungry Iowans, Help Us Stop Hunger (HUSH). Food Bank of Iowa announces mobile pantry pilot program
February 27, 2013

Today, the Food Bank of Iowa announced the beginning of a mobile pantry pilot program. Funded through a $30,000 grant from Archer Daniels Midland (ADM) awarded last fall, mobile pantries offer an added strategy toward bridging the food assistance gap for rural counties in the Food Bank of Iowa’s 55 county service area. Sparboe Farms partners with Fareway stores to Fill The Truck

Beginning on January 8, 2013, with any size carton of Sparboe Farms eggs purchased at any Fareway store, Sparboe Farms will donate eggs through the Iowa Food Bank Association, which supports many of the communities where Fareway has stores.
