The Food Bank of Iowa joined with the Newton Correctional Facility, 35 miles east of Des Moines, in early 2012 to start the Fresh Produce Program. Twelve acres of garden were dedicated to growing and harvesting produce for the Food Bank of Iowa to distribute to partner agencies. As a result of the project, more than 160,000 pounds of fresh produce were harvested and distributed to clients in need.
We look forward to continuing and literally growing this partnership!
