Dakotah

Soon, Dakotah, her partner and her three children will welcome a new member of the family.

The expectant mother works full-time; her partner is studying to become a teacher. Dakotah’s income is essential to keep the family afloat, but rising prices for food, housing and other basic needs are a real stressor. The family doesn’t qualify for income-based support.

“[We’re] just trying to fill the gaps,” Dakotah shared.

Thankfully, her family can rely on access to nourishing food through a Food Bank of Iowa partner pantry. Every month, Dakotah picks up fresh, high-quality food at West Des Moines Human Services.

With the ingredients she receives, Dakotah can make healthy family meals that stretch, from homemade hamburgers to “every kind of taco you can possibly think of.”

In the spirit of giving back, Dakotah often donates outfits her children have outgrown to the clothing closet when she picks up food.

With hunger so close, your support is vital for many families.

“If you’re able to donate, it’s very helpful for people,” Dakotah said. “You never know — your neighbor might be using it.”

Your partnership makes a difference for Dakotah’s soon-to-be family of six. Thank you.
