Volunteer Spotlight: Jane Hartman
Jane Hartman began volunteering at Food Bank of Iowa in 2020, inspired by her late husband’s experience with food insecurity.
“He literally knew that there was going to be one meal a day,” she said. “It was always our mission as a married couple to help with food insecurity.”
She first got involved after making a donation and receiving a handwritten thank-you note that encouraged her to volunteer at Food Bank of Iowa. Jane came once—just to try it—but was immediately drawn in.
“I walked in the door… and I felt at home instantly,” Jane said.
Now, she volunteers twice a week with her neighbors.
“Bring your friends, bring your family… even if you come alone, you will feel welcomed, appreciated,” she shared about first time volunteering.
