Food Bank of Iowa receives superior food safety scores
Des Moines, Iowa (Oct. 19, 2023) — Food Bank of Iowa is committed to providing safe, high-quality, nutritious food to Iowans in 55 counties. As prescribed by Feeding America, Food Bank of Iowa is regularly audited by AIB International for its compliance with strict food safety guidelines.
Following the most recent comprehensive inspections, Food Bank of Iowa’s Des Moines facility received a score of 965 out of 1,000 points possible, and its Ottumwa facility scored 900. These scores awarded Food Bank of Iowa the highest rating – Superior.
Food Bank of Iowa has participated in the food safety audit process since 2015 and has received superior ratings following each rigorous inspection. A passing score is 700 or above.
The five categories for inspection include operational methods and personnel practices; maintenance for food safety; cleaning practices; integrated pest management and adequacy of prerequisite programs and food safety programs.
Beyond inspection of its own facilities, Food Bank of Iowa is responsible for auditing the food safety practices of each of its partner pantries and meal sites every two years.
