Full plates for Makayla’s family

Although Makayla’s youngest daughter, Justice, is only 4, she already loves playing ‘chef’ and helping her mom out in the kitchen.

Together, the duo makes special meals for the whole family, including dad and Justice’s two siblings, who are 11 and 16. 

Each time Justice lends a little hand with the cooking, she learns something new — like what ingredients go into spaghetti and why it’s important to eat healthy. 

Sometimes, Justice tags along with mom Makayla to The Lord’s Cupboard, a Food Bank of Iowa partner pantry. That’s where Makayla receives healthy foods to fill her family’s table.  

With this resource, made possible by your generous support, Makayla’s family can make ends meet even in the harder months of the year, like summer and winter.  

Makayla learned about The Lord’s Cupboard through the Southern Iowa Economic Development Association about a year ago. Since then, the worry of how to fill the table has been greatly lessened.  

For a family of five, the relief of receiving nutritious groceries can’t be overstated.  

“It helps families out a lot when they need it the most,” Makayla says with heartfelt gratitude.
