Des Moines, Iowa (Oct. 11, 2021) — Food Bank of Iowa has received an Alliant Energy Foundation Impact Grant to launch a mobile food pantry in Centerville.

The $20,000 grant means that people struggling with hunger in Appanoose County will, for the first time, have access to flexible food assistance.

Beginning Oct. 14, the mobile pantry will be held the second Thursday of every month at the Alliant Energy Operations Center, 719 N. 18th Street, Centerville. Alliant Energy team members will staff the event from 4 – 6 p.m. and guide pantry guests through the check-in process.

Food boxes will be distributed drive-through style – a temporary change that’s been implemented for all Food Bank of Iowa mobile pantries in response to the Covid-19 pandemic. Food delivered to each pantry location typically includes fresh produce, protein, bread and nonperishable items.
