Food Bank of Iowa receives $150,000 donation from Tyson Foods
Food Bank of Iowa announced today a $150,000 grant from Tyson Foods. The funds from this grant were used to support a transportation and equipment package including a new refrigerated truck that will allow the organization to expand their programing and distribution efforts along with equipment for the distribution center.
“We are thrilled to receive this grant from Tyson Foods,” said Michelle Book, President and CEO of Food Bank of Iowa. “This new equipment will help us increase our distribution efforts to make sure hungry Iowans get the quality, nutritious food they need.”
Food insecurity affects 1 in 9 Iowans, leaving them unsure of their next meal. Food Bank of Iowa distributes food to over 625 partners across 55 counties – food pantries, homeless shelters, schools, day care centers, feeding sites and many others – and supplies over 5,000 backpacks each week during the school year to children in need.
“We’re proud to support Food Bank of Iowa and its mission to fight hunger,” said Debra Vernon, senior director, corporate social responsibility, Tyson Foods. “Equipping our partners with the right resources to address food insecurity by providing more effective transportation and supporting mobile pantry programs is a critical part of our hunger relief strategy.”
In conjunction with the $150,000 Tyson grant, the truck purchase was made possible by support from Ruan Transportation and Truck Company, an Iowa-based national Freightliner dealer.
