Des Moines, IA, December 12, 2017 – Wells Fargo has committed a $100,000 donation to help Food Bank of Iowa complete a renovation of its Des Moines distribution center. The donation coincides with a nationwide food drive being conducted at all 5,900 Wells Fargo bank locations.

“Wells Fargo and its more than 16,000 Iowa team members are huge supporters of the Food Bank of Iowa, which is doing great work to address food insecurity issues throughout our state,” said Wells Fargo Region Bank President Marta Codina. “It is critically important that food donations continue to come in – that’s why Wells Fargo is conducting a massive food drive this month, with nonperishable food items being collected at our 5,900 banks nationwide – but it’s also important that the Food Bank of Iowa has the physical plant it needs to process and distribute food to people in need. Wells Fargo is pleased to help the Food Bank of Iowa in this way with a $100,000 donation toward its capital campaign.”

The Food Bank of Iowa has raised more than 70 percent of the funds needed to complete a total overhaul of its Des Moines facility. The renovation project includes the construction of new, expanded freezer and refrigeration units, significant additions in storage for grocery products, and improvements to safety and efficiency throughout the facility. The ultimate goal of the renovation project is to facilitate distribution of 2 million lbs. of food each month. Currently, the Food Bank distributes 1 million lbs. per month.

Wells Fargo bank locations across the United States are also hosting food drives to benefit local food banks and other hunger-fighting organizations. Each of the 5,900 bank sites is collecting nonperishable food items through December 30 to help provide for people in need in their local communities.

The major donation and food drive effort are continuations of generous support provided by Wells Fargo and its employees. Through Wells Fargo’s employee volunteer program, Food Bank of Iowa has benefited from thousands of hours of volunteer time, sorting grocery items and produce as well as helping to maximize efficiency within Food Bank processes.
