Volunteer Spotlight: Tom Froehle
Tom Froehle has volunteered at Food Bank of Iowa for more than three years, driven by a strong belief in helping people facing food insecurity.
“I feel real strongly about people who are food insecure, and this is one way that I thought I could contribute,” he said.
Tom, who is retired, volunteers about once a week. He said the experience is efficient, impactful and rewarding.
“The food bank is very efficient. We get a lot of work done in the 2.5-hour shifts,” he said. “At the end of the shift, they always tell us how many pounds of food we have processed, and it’s many times tons.”
The work has become an important part of his life. “People ask me what I do, because I’ve been retired now for five years, and the biggest thing that I do is I volunteer here,” Tom said. “You’ll be amazed how much better you feel after you leave here.”
