Alyssa Harris works hard as a medical technician and secretary, but she’s equally passionate about her work as volunteer food pantry coordinator at Albia Community Schools

“I didn’t think I would do something like this or be this involved in it,” she says.

Alyssa first noticed the pantry while taking her son to basketball practice at school. Initially the school pantry operated from a closet, but now it has transitioned to a classroom for families to shop for groceries.

The pantry receives food twice a month from Food Bank of Iowa, and Alyssa helps set up and arrange the pantry to give each family the opportunity to choose two bags of food.

Alyssa encourages others to volunteer at their local pantry or Food Bank of Iowa, emphasizing how fulfilling it is.

“[The families] are thankful we’re doing this and for all the hard work we put into it,” she says.

Thank you, Alyssa, for your work to help end hunger in Iowa and thanks to friends like you for your partnership to do the same!
