Six months ago, Kathy first volunteered at the Middle River Friends Church Food Pantry, a Food Bank of Iowa partner.

Right away, she loved the sense of community and purpose she felt helping to end hunger in her own neighborhood.

The opportunity came through her church, where Kathy serves on the social concerns committee. Knowing hunger relief was an important mission to her fellow committee members is what inspired her to check it out.

Kathy retired from her career in IT about three years ago, giving her ample time to invest back into the community. Although Kathy has her hands full with a recent move, she always does what she can to make her home a stronger, healthier place.

If you’re considering donating your time, Kathy encourages you to make it happen.

“If you’re serious about volunteering, don’t wait for somebody to knock on your door,” she says.

We are so grateful for compassionate volunteers like you, Kathy. Thank you for serving our neighbors facing hunger!
