Ready. Set. SPIKE! 

Grand View Men’s Volleyball Team partnered with Food Bank of Iowa on Friday, January 31st during their game. Grand View advertised to have students bring their old or new pots and pans to make some noise during their match versus Aquinas University. When the game finished, everyone donated their pots, pans, and canned food items into a Molten Ball Cart. Such a great opportunity to make some noise while also bringing attention and awareness to food insecurity! 

“Having the opportunity for our team to support the mission and partner with Food Bank of Iowa was really awesome,” Donan Cruz, Grand View Men’s Volleyball Head Coach, said. “For us, it was also about how our community struggles with food insecurity and the impact the organization has on the community statewide. We are thankful how well our Grand View community and the volleyball community in the metro chipped in to support.”

Felix Chapman, Middle Blocker and senior at Grand View, loved the excitement in the bleachers when they brought pots and pans to the game.

“It’s incredible how sports can be useful for so many good things, and I’m proud to be part of the Grand View community,” Chapman said. “We are humans and should be concerned about people around the world who need assistance with a lot of different things. I appreciate what I have today because everyone doesn’t have the same opportunity.”

Food Bank of Iowa rarely receives pots and pans as donations so this was a unique opportunity. We greatly cherish partnerships such as Grand View University because it also spreads awareness about food insecurity around the community.
